But there was clearly more to this.The Australian film Sanctum 3D opens on Thursday and despite it being much publicised as a film shot in Queensland, Limestone Coast viewers may notice some familiar scenes. Towards the end it gets too corny, the film also loses some of its visual charm (or you get used to it, because 110 minutes is quite long for a film like this) and the soundtrack starts to disappoint.Ī strong start and great location, however, keep things going. Too bad, it would have been nicer if the film had just stuck with the nature obstacles. Rhys Wakefield is a very limited (actually just bad) actor and Gruffudd also falls through the basket. That all goes well for a while, as long as the cast has to fight against the cave, but when more and more people drop out and the characters start turning against each other, the film collapses. It all goes wrong, everyone is stuck in the cave and then there is only one thing left, to find an exit. Beautiful setting, adventurous set-up and quite nicely portrayed. Sphere, but certainly also The Abyss have an advantage for me because of the setting. Now I'm all for the underwater/adventure movies. Naar het einde wordt het te melig, verliest de film ook wel wat van z'n visuele charme (of treedt er gewenning op, want 110 minuten is ook best lang voor een film als deze) en begint de soundtrack aardig tegen te steken.Įen sterk begin en geweldige locatie houden het geheel echter wel draaiende. Jammer, het was leuker geweest als de film zich gewoon bij de natuurhindernissen had gehouden. Rhys Wakefield is een zéér beperkte (zeg eigenlijk maar gewoon slechte) acteur en ook Gruffudd valt door de mand.
Dat gaat dan allemaal eventjes goed, zolang de cast tegen de grot moet vechten, maar wanneer er steeds meer persoontjes afvallen en de personages zich tegen elkaar beginnen keren, zakt de film in. Het loopt allemaal mis, iedereen zit vast in de grot en dan rest er maar één ding, een uitgang zoeken. Mooie opgeving, avontuurlijke opzet en best aardig in beeld gebracht allemaal.Įerste uur is dan ook gewoon leuk.
Sphere, maar zeker ook The Abyss hebben bij mij een streepje voor vanwege de setting. Nu ben ik wel voor de onderwater/avonturen films.
